Discover the Story School Summer Camp & Meet Camp Director Chris Wiley
In the heart of The Story School Summer Camp lies a transformative experience, one that transcends traditional education and immerses campers in a world where they are the main characters of their own adventures. Guided by the philosophy that every individual has the potential to become the hero of their own story, The Story School offers a unique blend of educational live action role-playing (eduLARP) with a focus on personal growth, resilience, and self-discovery.
At the core of our mission is the belief that empowerment through narrative and interactive experiences can unlock a camper's full potential. Our programs are meticulously designed to foster an environment of inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that each participant feels valued and heard. This commitment extends beyond the confines of our camp, as we strive to broaden access to our innovative eduLARPs through scholarships, internships, and research opportunities, making the magic of storytelling accessible to all.
Education at The Story School transforms into inspiration, where the lines between learning and play blur, creating a fertile ground for skill development and lifelong learning. Our approach advocates for play as a vital tool in education, promoting a curiosity-driven model that caters to all types of learners, from the neurodivergent to the LGBTQIA+ communities.
The narrative of The Story School begins with its executive director, Christopher Wiley, whose journey from a small college in the South to the bustling streets of Boston led him to discover his passion for eduLARP. Under the mentorship of Meghan Gardner at Guard Up, Inc., Chris's career evolved from a camp counselor to the director of the "Wizards & Warriors" overnight camp, and eventually, to the helm of The Story School. His leadership through challenging times, including the transition to virtual and hybrid programs during the pandemic, has been instrumental in shaping the organization's inclusive ethos and innovative approach to education.
Today, The Story School stands as a beacon of hope and creativity, inviting campers to embark on a journey of learning and self-discovery. With a focus on making academic learning engaging through immersive role-play and fantasy, we are dedicated to expanding our summer camp program and developing year-round offerings to nurture the next generation of heroes.
